Call your doctor if you suffer Impotence

It is important to know and understand that erectile dysfunction is a medical condition and not necessarily just part of getting older. Erectile dysfunction is no longer a problem which cannot be solved. It is cured through number of treatment and medicines that are available just for ED.

Men who have ED should visit their doctor to discuss their sexual health and their overall health. This will give their doctor the opportunity to do a complete exam, during which significant health problems may be detected and addressed, and treatment options for erectile dysfunction can be discussed.

The currently available oral medications are in a class called PDE5 inhibitors. These medications work to restore a normal system of blood flow in the penis so that an erection can occur with sexual stimulation. Cialis, Viagra and Levitra are erectile dysfunction drugs. All are oral drugs and are effective forms of erectile dysfunction treatment.

Erectile Dysfunction or male impotence is experienced by most men in some stage of their lives. Erectile Dysfunction (ED) or impotence is a common health problem especially in men above 40 years. This also occurs in younger men.

There are many causes for erectile dysfunction. The primarily reasons are physical, psychological and medical. Most of these conditions can be cured. Doctors believe that most of the people suffer from mixed erectile dysfunction. A combination of all reasons like medical conditions, emotional and physiological reasons can cause erectile dysfunction.

The physiological reasons for erectile dysfunction could be because of diabetes (Men with type 1 diabetes have a greater risk of ED than men with type 2 diabetes), vascular disease, hormone disorders, pelvic trauma, any surgery or radiation, neurological conditions, Peyronie’s disease or drugs. High blood pressure, also called hypertension is one of the most closely linked conditions to erectile dysfunction (ED). Not only can high blood pressure lead to ED, but medication for HBP may cause ED, as well as other sexual side effects.

The psychological aspects in erectile dysfunction are also causes of ED like depression, guilt, worry, stress, anxiety. These psychological conditions result in loss of libido and thereafter erectile dysfunction.

Some experts believe that 80% of all erectile dysfunction cases are caused due to physical disorders. The healthier you are, the less likely are you to experience erectile dysfunction. Reducing intake of alcohol, leading a stress free life, quitting smoking and exercising regularly may reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction. Sometimes before starting medication for ED, a few doctors or healthcare professionals may recommend exercises, dieting to reduce blood lipids, to quit smoking, reduce alcohol consumption and advice on managing stress and fatigue.

Oral medication for ED can cause some side effects. Most of them are well tolerated but a few are serious side effects and can cause life threatening symptoms. Any medication should be taken with proper consultation with the health professional. The doctor should know the reason for ED and all the medication that you are taking before he prescribes any oral treatment for ED.

Before oral treatment was used to cure ED, penile injection was used to cure ED. The other ways were surgery and inserting vacuum devices for the treatment of ED. Insurance coverage of ED depends upon the type of treatment prescribed. If there is a documented medical condition that is shown to be causing ED, insurance will usually cover at least some of it.
