Understanding ED with a positive approach
There have been times when you have flushed from the
idea of talking about erectile dysfunction (ED). If
this has been the case then its time you consider this:
ED treatment is no longer, considered a permanent problem.
A man’s sexual health is important to the propagation
of mankind, as much as a woman’s is. Medical science
and technology has progressed marvelously over the years
which is why mens
health issues have been so easy to resolve through
an expert’s intervention.
Understanding ED
It is important for a man to acknowledge the existence
of ED, if he is suffering from erection problems. With
a little compassion and understanding from his partner,
he must be able to feel optimistic about the wide array
of alternative treatments that are available in the medical
world. So logically, he must start looking for a way beyond
his emotional issues that have seemed to emerge out of
the persisting, nagging problem of impotency.
ED is common today
Understanding ED is important and also understanding
that ED is a common problem for the millennium is somewhat
reassuring for the one who is suffering from impotency.
Statistics reveal that one in every ten men might be
suffering from erectile dysfunction today. The problem
of male impotency or ED has affected more than 3 million
in the world today. Do you know why?
Causes of ED
In approximately 80% of men with ED, there is an underlying
physical cause - such as diabetes, high blood pressure
or heart disease. This is why it is important for your
partner to get checked out by a doctor if he hasn't
done so already and for him to have regular medical
check ups.
ED may be a symptom of a number of different underlying
illnesses which can include:
• Diabetes
• High blood pressure
• Coronary heart disease
• Depression/Anxiety
• Surgery (e.g. pelvic)
• Spinal cord injury
• Hormonal problems
• Neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis
However, impotency might also result from underlying
psychological causes namely:
• Life pressures - for example work, financial
or family worries
• Performance anxiety – whereby a man becomes
anxious before sexual intercourse
• Change in partner – starting a new relationship,
particularly after the loss of a partner, may be problematic
for some men.
ED Treatment
A man’s sexual health is the key to his generic
health. So, if one has been facing problems of ED, one
must realize that there is an urgent need to consult
a doctor, expert in the field of urology. There are
different types of treatment available for ED but only
a doctor would know what is best for you.
Oral treatment
Three different tablets are currently available from
the doctor and these tablets work when there is sexual
stimulation. Depending on the treatment, it will need
to be taken 20 minutes to 1 hour before sex and the
period of time over which it works can vary between
3 hours and up to 36 hours.
Alprostadil
This can be injected into the penis or inserted using
a special applicator - usually just before sexual intercourse.
Vacuum pumps
These work by drawing blood into the penis and are also
used just before sexual intercourse.
Hormone treatment
It is rare, but some men receive hormones for their
erection problem. This does depend on the cause of the
problem as well as other factors.
Surgery
Often, as a last resort if other treatments have failed,
the most common procedure is prosthetic implants which
involve the insertion of artificial rods into the penis.
Counseling
All men with erectile dysfunction would benefit from
counseling and it should be an integral part of treatment.
Conclusion
ED might ruin your love life, if you are not ready to
accept the existence of the disorder within you. However,
you need not feel guilty or depressed because with the
right attitude and medical intervention ED is permanently
curable. Start taking action today!
