Erectile
Dysfunction and Blood Pressure
August 01, 2006
Think erectile
dysfunction is not related to high blood
pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol? Think
again. A new Web site, www.checkmensfacts.com,
aims to educate men on the links between common
health conditions and erectile dysfunction,
or ED. These conditions, even when controlled
by medication, can impede normal blood flow,
a critical component of healthy erectile function.
The site also includes tips on how men can
speak with their doctors about ED without embarrassment.
Checkmensfacts.com was launched on the heels
of a new national survey of U.S. men age 35
and older, which revealed that approximately
eight out of 10 men were not aware that their
high blood pressure was connected to ED. Most
were also unaware that other conditions can
impact sexual health. Nearly half, however,
of the men surveyed said they would be more
willing to talk with their doctors if they were
aware of the connection with sexual health.
ED is typically defined as a consistent or
recurrent inability to attain and/or maintain
an erection sufficient for sexual
performance. While up to 30 million men
in the United States suffer from ED, the condition
is more treatable than many people realize.
