Side effects
of ED drugs
February 03, 2006
As more and more men are using
medication to correct erectile
dysfunction (ED), more side-effects associated
with the use of the drugs are coming to light.
Doctors in Nashville are investigating one such
case: a singer who took vardenafil (Levitra)
at night and was hoarse in the morning. They're
reporting a case of a vocal fold hemorrhage
associated with the casual use of vardenafil
or Levitra who reported the case at the Triological
Society's Southern Section meeting here.
Doctors reported that the
31-year-old professional singer with reluctance
told them he took a single tablet of the erectile
dysfunction drug vardenafil before engaging
in sexual
intercourse the night before a scheduled
singing performance in July 2005. When he began
singing at about 10 a.m., he began suffering
acute dsyphonia.
While the effects of phosphosphodiesterase-5
need to be elucidated, their use may play a
factor in the development of significant laryngeal
pathology. Phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors Viagra,
Cialis and Levitra comprise a relatively new
class of drugs, the side-effects of which are
slowly being recognized. The availability, marketing
and potential for misuse have identified such
potential complications.
Apart from these, the ED drugs
such as Cialis,
Viagra and Levitra are of immense use for millions
of ED sufferers.
