| Lilly's
special team fights counterfeiting
January 27, 2004
Eli Lilly
& Co., which helped develop the new male
impotence drug Cialis with Bothell-based Icos
Corp., has created a team to investigate counterfeiting
of its products worldwide, the Indianapolis
Star reported.
The drugmaker also is using technology, including
a logo with color-shifting ink on its Cialis
package, to fight sales of counterfeit products,
the newspaper reported, citing Cialis team leader
Mark Barbato.
Lilly's "product protection" team
was created last year to investigate counterfeiting
claims. A former FBI special agent leads the
team of scientists, lawyers and security officials.
The group has collected evidence on 30 counterfeiting
operations in seven countries, the paper said.
