Fake impotence
drugs flood the market
January 11, 2006
The phenomenal success achieved
by the erectile
dysfunction (ED) drugs Viagra, Cialis and
Levitra has opened the Kenyan market to a flood
of copy cats and fake ED drugs. Viagra is one
of the fastest selling drugs in the developed
world which requires no introduction in Kenya.
As the branded ED drugs Viagra
and Cialis
are expensive for most would-be users therefore
cheaper versions are now on the street.
Some of them are in generic
form and most of them of unknown quality, performance
and even safety. Since Pfizer introduced the
blue pill in 1998, Viagra has been the most-talked-about
prescription drug since the birth-control pill.
Although some of its thunder has been stolen
by new entrants in the market like Levitra and
Cialis, the name Viagra remains synonymous with
sex-enhancing medicines. So, fake drug makers
are trying to make money on the name of this
popular ED drug.
