Sex shop
stocked fake erectile dysfunction drugs
January 17, 2006
The Taipei City Government's
Department of Health yesterday found out that
one of 54 sex shops was found to be stocking
fake erectile
dysfunction (ED) drugs and other products
that violated health regulations following a
round of inspections. Nine products claiming
to boost male potency that did not meet health
regulations were found in a sex shop in Wenshan
District.
Two of the products contained
methamphetamine, while the others contained
Bufalin, Sildenafil and Lidocaine. Bufalin increases
the heart rate, has anesthetic effects and reduces
swelling. Lidocaine also has anesthetic effects.
Products at the shop packaged
as ED drug Cialis
were found to contain Sildenafil, an active
ingredient in Viagra. Products packaged as Viagra
were found to contain methyltestosterone, a
male hormone, in addition to the active ingredient
Sildenafil. Viagra and Cialis are drugs approved
by health authorities as treatment for erectile
dysfunction.
