Erectile dysfunction is more common in men with epilepsy
July 27, 2007
As per we that erectile dysfunction can be
cause for another diseases and its also possible
that other diseases may result in erectile dysfunction.
Another thing that has been found is that Ed
is more common in men with epilepsy than in
the general population. Several factors likely
play a role.
Epilepsy itself might cause sexual dysfunction,
particularly if seizures are poorly controlled.
Disruptions in hormone levels and brain activity
may harm sexual desire and performance. In many
cases, improved seizure control alleviates sexual
dysfunction.
Also drugs used to treat epilepsy may cause
sexual dysfunction. Anti-seizure medication,
such as phenytoin and carbamazepine, can reduce
testosterone levels in men, which in turn reduces
sexual desire and impairs sexual function.
In addition, there are also psychological factors
- such as depression, sexual anxiety or stigma
associated with epilepsy - which straightly
can contribute to sexual dysfunction in men
with epilepsy.
If you have epilepsy and erectile
dysfunction, you must take it seriously
and consult your doctor. In any case, a careful
consideration is needed to determine the cause
and best treatment for erectile dysfunction.
