Lilly Icos plans daily Cialis product
June 08, 2006

Lilly Icos, the joint venture between Icos Corp. and Eli Lilly and Co. formed to market the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis, has submitted plans to introduce a daily Cialis product in Europe and eventually, the U.S. and Canada.

Lilly Icos submitted its plans to the European Medicines Agency for Cialis in 2.5-milligram and 5-milligram once-a-day doses. The company said it plans to file in the United States and Canada later this year and if approved, it could launch the product in late 2007.

"Market research revealed that once-a-day therapy could especially appeal to an important segment of the patient population -- the man in his forties or fifties who takes a (erectile dysfunction drug) more frequently than average. Importantly, growth in worldwide Cialis sales, including Cialis Once-A-Day beginning in 2008 if approved, are expected to drive accelerated earnings for Icos Corp.," said Paul Clark, chairman and CEO of Bothell-based Icos (NASDAQ: ICOS - News).
