Cialis maker
pays CEO $11.9 million in compensation

Cialis
maker Eli Lilly and Co. paid its top executive
$11.9 million in compensation in 2005, down
from $15.5 million a year before, according
to a regulatory filing. Chief Executive Sidney
Taurel's salary and bonus for 2005 rose to $3.8
million, from $3 million in 2004, the Securities
and Exchange Commission filing said.
Taurel got restricted stock
valued at $3.7 million for 2005, up from the
$1.6 million in restricted stock he got in the
prior year, according to the filing. The restricted
stock that was awarded for 2005 vests on Feb.
1, 2007, the filing said. Taurel also got 255,621
securities underlying options in 2005 with a
value of $4.3 million, down from the 400,000
securities underlying options he got in 2004
with a value of $10.8 million.
According to Indianapolis-based
Lilly, the maker of erectile
dysfunction drug Cialis, Taurel realized
$9 million from the exercise of options to acquire
295,728 shares.
Eli Lilly, which makes drugs
including the antidepressants Prozac and Serafem,
the schizophrenia treatment Zyprexa, and the
erectile dysfunction treatment Cialis, had 2005
revenue of $14.6 billion.
