Cialis maker
to enter Japan general practitioner market
March 16, 2006
U.S. drug maker Eli Lilly and
Co., the maker of erectile
dysfunction (ED) drug Cialis said on Thursday
that it plans to expand its Japanese sales network
to include general practitioners from around
2007, when it expects its anti-impotence pill
Cialis
to go on sale in Japan.
The company plans to enter
the general practitioner market -- consisting
of about 97,000 institutions -- and hopes to
sell its diabetes and depression medicines through
its expanded sales network in the future. The
company filed for approval to sell Cialis, which
competes with Pfizer Inc.'s Viagra and Bayer
AG's Levitra overseas, with Japanese drug regulators
in 2005, and hopes to get the product on the
market next year.
