SAN DIEGO -- While they may have the same ultimate
effect, a study of three male sex drugs shows
they differ significantly when it comes to side
effects and lasting power.
The drugs -- Levitra, Cialis
and Viagra -- all work by increasing blood
flow to the penile chamber, said Dr. Ruce Hensel.
However, subtle chemical differences can cause
varying side effects, including blurred vision,
headache and stuffy nose in some patients.
Sixty percent of men felt Viagra caused the
fewest side
effects, while 41.2 percent said Cialis
was the least intrusive and 40.5 preferred Levitra.
When it came to lasting power, however, Cialis
received the highest score.
Urologist Stephen Auerbach said Levitra works
faster and lasts longer than Viagra, as long
as 36 hours.
"It gives us more flexibility; if she
has a headache tonight, that's OK," said
patient Frank Marcoulides.
"I like it because we are not limited
to a time frame and it's more spontaneous,"
said Hannah Marcoulides, Frank's wife. "It's
more romantic."
