Korean firm to sell ED drug in Mid East
October 27, 2006
SEOUL, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Korean firm Dong-A
Pharmaceutical said Friday it has granted Saudi
firm SCP the rights to sell its erectile dysfunction
drug in the Middle East.
Dong-A said SCP will distribute its ED drug
Zydena in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries,
including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait,
UAE and Qatar.
The pact with SCP positions Zydena to compete
with other ED therapies already sold in the
Middle East, including Pfizer's Viagra, Lilly's
Cialis
and Bayer's Levitra, Dong-A said.
While the drug has not yet been approved in
the United States, Zydena was launched in Korea
in December 2005 and has exceeded more than
20 percent (by volume) of the Korean market,
the company noted.
The drug's name should help with brand recognition
in the Gulf states, the Korean firm said, noting
that the Arabic pronunciation of Zydena translates
to "give me more."
